As I find time on this blissful solstice to reflect on the year that is soon to end, all I can think is, wow, what a year it was. The lessons, hardships, and memories that make up the 2024 journey were fundamental for learning more about how I operate as a human being.
This year was a great year, with a lot of blessings, but where there is light, there are shadows. There were times this year when I got lost in the mental jungle that I often mention throughout these journals. Which will happen; it’s part of being human. And at times, the jungle got the best of me and made me question many things. My habits, shortcomings, and subconscious flaws are things that I continually get reminded of because I put myself through them due to my mind making them the center of attention, therefore forcing myself to try a different approach each time. I have figured out where most things stem from, but as always, there are more mysteries to uncover; they will be in the coming years, if the keepers of the stars grant me them.
Essential lessons from 2024,
Don’t let a set of eyes and good conversations throw you through a spiral; be genuine but remain in control. As far as finding our person in life goes, Zach Bryan said it best, “find someone who grows flowers in the darkest parts of you.”
If my time on the mats has taught me anything, I’d say the most important is not to put your back to your opponent (problem); it puts you in a more vulnerable position and opens up more obstacles to deal with. Face your opponent and get it solved.
The importance of the people you surround yourself with. Part of being human is adapting to our surroundings to get to a better position in life and achieve our goals; surround yourself with people who have the values and positions in society that you may benefit from. You become who your friends are, so choose wisely. The friendships that kicked off or continued this year will forever be a blessing.
2024, thank you for forging me into a stronger person, not just physically but mentally.
January marks the start of the third year of this site and the beginning of a new chapter of our lives. I can’t think of a better way to start that chapter than to compete in my first Jiu-jitsu competition. Let’s face it head-on and make the most of it!
Wishing everyone a Gleðilig Jól and a safe new year! Thank you all for another great year of support!
Peyton.
