As I sit here watching the rain and russet leaves float down on the eve of Thanksgiving, I find myself thinking about the position in life that I am in presently. Reflecting, remembering, and embracing each thought and feeling that enkindles. With the increase of productivity that I have chosen to take on, I try to remind myself of the simple things in life.
I am aware of others that are often finding themselves trapped inside the same dark place in their minds during this time of year, and I am here to say that it’s okay, but as I have stated before, please do not stay in that jungle for too long; little good is a consequence of it. I heard recently that the act of comparison is the thief of joy, happiness, or peace. I can say that the statement is true. In a world where the hustle and constant pursuit are causing us to fly on autopilot, it can be tough to come to the realization of what we should be thankful for. Do you have a bed to sleep in? A roof over your head? A plate of food in front of you? More than enough to not only survive but thrive? If you answered yes to any of these, then learn to appreciate them. A practice of this nature should be done daily, not just when the celebration calls for it.
Let this time of year be a reminder to naturally be thankful for not only what we have but also who we have in our lives. At times, the people in our lives can cause us to feel the various emotions that we have as living beings; regardless, we are fortunate to have them. We are all one phone call away from having our worlds shattered at any time. We all must remember those who are not here physically but whose spirits have not gone too far. Have a glass of their favorite wine or their favorite pie. Just because one is gone does not mean we are to stop the traditions that they passed down to us.
Remember, life is not about comparing apples to oranges, it is about enjoying the fruit.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Peyton.
